Thomas Jefferson's call for reason and tolerance

I couldn't help but think the Tea Party hadn't done its due diligence when calling upon this founding father to support its political viewpoints. Here's a good example of Jefferson's thoughts on reason and tolerance. The excerpt is taken from his Query XVII in the Notes on Virginia titled: "The Different Religions Received into that State" (pages 158-9).
