After the death of his mother, he was recruited by the Sudan People's Liberation Army and for 5 years he survived front line action.

Eventually, along with 300 other 'lost boys' he managed to escape and endured a 3 month trek on foot without any supplies to reach safety- only a handful survived the journey. It was then that Emmanuel was rescued by an aid worker who smuggled him to freedom in Kenya and enrolled him in school for the first time.

Now Emmanuel is an international hip-hop star and an activist for children in war zones. #bbcnolan
