Mark Goodier's final Top 40 - 2002

Episode 956,   Nov 18, 2014, 10:51 PM

A music charts hit their 50th anniversary, Mark Goodier was in the BBC Radio 1 Sunday night chart seat. Hear this flawless presentation, as he whizzes through the Top Ten for his final time in 2002.

Mark hosted the Top 40 twice (1990-1992 and 1995-2002). Hear, here the chart styles collide. The functional ‘up one….and down two’ short links still exist, in part using traditional foreground power presentation, yet with just a touch more realism than earlier.. The accapella year jingles are long gone, just as they had on much UK radio by then, replaced by the occasional voiceover.

By this time, in this more competitive age, promos for other shows were included. Towards the end, hear the informality and ‘talking to the stars’ which was to become part of the programme in the years to follow.

Enjoy his stylish and hugely professional farewell, as befits the man, with a nod to the wise, for those who remembered the famous DLT goodbye.
