When Observations on life, become Judgemental . #observations #life #judgement
Is it possible to observe 'negatively' without that observation being judgemental ?
Chris .. my interpretation of people doing something nice for another, doesn't mean I would then think they were a good person in general. Just that I thought what they did at the time was a nice gesture. However, I've found invariably that when seeing someone do something, or act in such a way, that annoyed me, such as an 'apparently' negative action or attitude, pretty much results in thinking they were not such a good person. Rightly or wrongly, I had judged those people on one action in their lives. It's a human frailty I'm afraid.
Aa for @n2fgc Lee's thought that simply by saying 'in my opinion' is less judgemental than without adding that caveat... In my opinion that doesn't ring true. It is still a judgement. By making a statement it is, by definition, 'in my opinion' already. By expressing an opinion bases upon what we perceive we are offering a judgement. And nothing wrong with making judgements.. As long as we don't judge the whole person by a single act
Both negative and positive abservations resulted in judgements in your pedestrian crossing analogy Mac. Observing a kind act is just as judgmental as observing a unkindly act. By distinguishing an observation we are judging it. We can not do otherwise. However, we can make a judgement based on an observation regardless of whether it's positive or negative. As long as we only judge the observation and not the whole person. After all, we don't know the whole person
