Home News Episode 4 Sydney

Dec 12, 2012, 08:35 AM

In Sydney, the Irish Echo, the only Irish newspaper in Australia, is catering for an Irish Australian community and also hoping to benefit from the large influx of Irish emigrants in recent years. In this episode, we meet some of those new arrivals who are somewhat ambivalent to the title. We hear from Irish emigrants playing Australian Rules football and go to the party areas of Sydney where some Irish may be giving the rest of the emigrants a bad reputation. An Irishman who is responsible for programming one of the most famous stages in the world at the Sydney Opera House takes us on a behind the scenes tour of the venue, while one emigrant trying to make a new life for himself in Australia talks about how negative equity back in Ireland has followed him to Sydney. Broadcast Saturday December 15th at 7.30pm on RTE Radio 1.
