Ominous words for English farmers as Defra secretary Owen Paterson fuels fears that they could face more stringent environmental rules than their European counterparts.
Member states should be free to operate their own schemes rather than adopt so-called greening measures proposed by Brussels, Mr Paterson told an EU farm council meeting on Monday (18 March).
