Virgin Radio Launch - 30th April 1993

Virgin Radio was launched on 30th April 1993 on 1215 AM, formerly the home of Radio 3 from 1978-92 and before that Radio 1 (1967-78)

There are many clips of this launch on the web so it's nothing special, but this one is to me. I was 15 years old and at school at the time, but wanted to hear the launch of the station, so my grandad agreed to record it for me.

I popped round the night before, set his stereo to 1215 AM, pressed record and told him all he had to do was switch it on just before quarter past twelve on that Friday lunchtime, which he did, and this recording is the result.

My grandad passed away on Sunday 28th April so this recording is a little more poignant for me
