Cot Fisher Kings

Excerpt from Cot Fisher Kings, winner of a 2012 PPI Documentary Award. Presented and produced by Mary Brophy.

On the rivers of the south east of Ireland, there is a boat that connects us directly with our ancestors. An elegant vessel, the ‘cot’ has been used on the tidal stretches of these waters for generations, mostly to fish with snap nets for salmon. But cots are not simply boats. They are stores of knowledge and memory - of river names, of the communities along the river banks, of the skills of the cot builders and of the ghosts of the fisher kings long since left the water.
