Venice weekend: Making tracks (aboard the Thello sleeper train)

After a night of twists and turns in the dark, along with a transit of the Simplon Tunnel, once the longest of its kind in the world, we awoke to find ourselves sitting in a Milan station some time after we should have departed eastwards to Venice.
