Mar 31, 2014, 09:25 AM

The sixth episode of Science is Everywhere, broadcast on Newstalk 106-108FM on 29th March 2014. In this episode, Lara seeks to find out if an athlete is born or bred. Nature versus nurture. Prof. Brendan Egan says it is a mixture of both - good genes and lots of training. Lara also meets with former Tennis Pro Conor Niland, Olympians Natalya Coyle and Maria McCambridge to get their insight on whether it takes hard work or good genes to get to win. We visit Olympian Prof. Colin Boreham in UCD where he describes the elements that make a winner as well as geneticist and horse scientist Dr Emmeline Hill who has described what is known as the 'speed gene' in racehorses. Science is Everywhere is an Athena Media production for Newstalk 106-108fm made with the support of the BAI. The producer is Helen Shaw, the audio editor is Amy Millar.
