Just though you might want to know, Adam, that I made a Boo recording featuring your buddy SteamSaint.

We pride ourselves on our iPhone app. The condenser mic definitely DOES sound better, but it isn't a massive difference. It sounds ever so slightly rounder, fuller and a deeper. People might not notice, but it does subtly suggest a more professional recording. The iPhone just doesn't have the same frequency response as a big microphone.

Truth be told though, the iPhone really is 'good enough'.

The devil's advocate to the previous point would suggest you keep the expensive mic for any "actual" podcasting you may plan on doing. Of course this may also be a purely selfish suggestion.

Oooh you're gonna hate me, Adam. This sounds just as nice. I even plugged in my nice Bose speakers and cranked it on high to see if I could tell a difference between this and your last one....and I couldn't.

But don't feel bad! This means that you are going to have a lot more convenience for publishing audioboos!

Consider this, though: I would suggest you try and get your money back on the fancy microphone, and instead invest in a really good bluetooth headset. Not only is it really helpful for general phone use, but it will make it so you don't have to hold your phone steady, or try to get your mouth at just the right level to the microphone on your iPhone. I know the newer ones offer really good noise cancellation options.
