The Nigerian singer/songwriter and actress, Omawumi Megbele, came to widespread attention as the runner-up in 2007 on the reality TV show, "West Africa Idols". She's subsequently gone on to win multiple awards in Nigeria, and released two albums. And she is not afraid to tackle difficult themes. In her song, "If You Ask Me" - which she's just performed for our multi-media series, Africa Beats - she touches on the very sensitive and uncomfortable subjects of incest and child abuse. She explained that the song had been inspired by a very disturbing incident she'd witnessed, and that, at first, she wasn't sure she should write a song about it. But later, she became convinced that she must do it.
