Moves, comms, and conferences - Kilobox podcast Oct 2015

Oh did you notice I launched a brand new intranet conference last month? Intranet Now went very well, but we know we have some improvements to make if Brian and I are do do it again next year. Intranetnow.co.uk

I also launched a new award, the Intranet Now diamond – for outstanding community contribution. Brian and I presented it to Martin White (of Intranet Focus) in a surprise and hasty ceremony.

Interaction – I’m talked about Content tactics - y’know, the idea that intranet contributors somehow have to execute your content strategy on the page, day in, day out.

Competition to win a new intranet from Interact – tell your fave charity / non-profit

Intranet Innovation Awards – Among the gold winners were Liverpool Uni, and BSI – Dana Leeson leads their intranet – congrats to Dana. Special shout-out to my colleagues at Content Formula who created the J&J winning solution. UK awards are on the 3rd of November, hosted by the Intranetters, who I can’t wait to meet.

I’ve nearly finished reading Liam Fitzpatrick’s and Klavs Valskov’s book, ‘Internal Communications – a manual for practitioners’. I was delighted to attend the book launch at Elllwood Atfield and get my copy signed. It’s a fantastic book for any IC pro, and it reminds me of Marc Wright’s Gower Handbook of Internal Communication – to paraphrase The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Liam and Klavs’ book scores over Marc’s in two important respects – first, it is cheaper, and second, it is considerably lighter in weight. Then again, Marc’s tome is available for Kindle.

It’s taken my a decade to meet Liam as we once worked at the same global corporation at nearly, but not quite, the same time, so Liam was like a ghost around the office, haunting all my comms work.

Publishing – where’s everyone publishing their intranet stuff these days? CMSWire / Medium / LinkedIn / personal-professional blogs.

I notice today that Simply Communicate, y’know, Marc, Silvia, and Gloria have moved offices - into the Innovation Hub within New Zealand House (London). I imagine they’ll be neighbours of the Beem team, the mobile app for internal comms.

Congrats to Marc - and I notice (as I would) that Simply Comms are offering Sam Marshall’s ‘simply SharePoint’ workshop for half price. Use the code ‘simplymove’ to secure your spot for the 4th of November in London.

I also notice that Kristian Norling has moved into his new office over in Sweden - congratulations to Kristian - his business model really has legs, he’s made so much progress over this year.

So, a quick run down of events:

3rd of November is the ICT Info Age Conference at the Science Museum in London. Very high-brow, but I can only attend for half the day as ...

3rd of November is the Internetter’s get together in London, where winners Step Two’s Intranet Innovation Awards will showcase their entries. I’m looking forward to hearing from Dana Leeson and perhaps my colleague, Dan Hawtrey.

Janus Boye also hosts their intranet conference in Denmark on the 3rd.

There’s an interesting ‘Internet and Intranet Summit’ in Zurich on the 11th, which I hope to learn more about for next year.

Then on the 13th November, I’ll be in Stockholm delivering my Content tactics presentation again, at Kristian Norling’s Intranatwerk conference.

And of course, Brian Lamb and I are thinking about our ‘Intranet Now’ conference for September 2015. If you’re interested in sponsoring the event, and so speaking to around 150 comms and intranet practitioners, drop me a line on Wedge@kilobox.net or tweet me on Wedge.
