The Sound of Music 50 years on

The story won hearts around the world - and plenty of support at the Oscars - the film version went on to win five academy awards.

The screenplay was adapted from an autobiography of the real Maria, she really was a governess to the children and really did end up marrying the widowed captain Von Trapp.

It was filmed in Salzburg in the Austrian Alps and its enduring popularity has guaranteed a flood of tourist fans year after year, as we heard from Bert Brugger, Managing Director of Salzburg Tourism.
