Life as a Visual Storyteller—Episode 28—28th July, 2015: I'm an Idiot for NOT Showing You What I Do

Jul 28, 2015, 10:33 PM

Would you like to know how much money I make from cartoons?

This much:

That's right.

Nothing.

Yet, it's the one thing you see me do every day: draw a cartoon. So, you might think that cartooning is one of my income streams. You may even think, it's my only one. Based on the recent evidence here, nobody could blame you for making that assumption.

So it occurred to me that perhaps you've never seen any of my commissioned photographs and videos. As a result, would you ever think of hiring me or recommending me to anyone else who needed a photographer or a filmmaker? Probably not. And again: who could blame you?

But you listen to my podcast, read my blog—maybe every day. I'm an idiot for not at least making you aware of my work. (Maybe, you could go to my portfolio website? I tend to show off the best stuff there).

Now, there's nothing worse than a creative who constantly bangs on about their work, so I'm going to leave it there. I just thought that, after 27 episodes, I should mention where you can find it. And that I'm for hire. That's often something that needs to be said explicitly before people make the connection.

By the way, if you want to help me fill in the blank at the start of this post, that'd be welcome too.

By the way, there's way more in the podcast today. Not only the hidden part, but also a killer marketing tip from Chicago.
