The Ugandan army - #UPDF has overrun a disputed border area in Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria state.

Soldiers of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces occupied the new custom area at Gomoromo on Tuesday afternoon.

Okeny Lam is the chairperson of a border crisis management committee that was formed to look into the long standing dispute.
Lam says the Uganda soldiers entered with heavy ammunition, prompting communities to flee in a panic.

He says it is not clear how many people were injured.

The people of Pajok Payam in Magwi County and their neighbours in Uganda have been at loggerheads over the ownership of the land in Gomoromoro since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

Authorities in Uganda’s Lamwo district were not reachable for comment regarding yesterday’s incident.
