When the Great Depression began, Herbert Hoover, a Republican, was president. The leftist narrative is that Hoover didn't care and did nothing. The reality is, though, that Hoover took plays from the progressive, socialist left's playbook, including raising taxes, especially on the rich, and excessive regulations accompanying federal bailout loans. These actions exacerbated the crisis.
