1985 - Bob Geldof snubbed in New Year's Honours

1985, the year of Live Aid and Bob Geldof seemed to be a shoo-in for an knighthood in the New Year's honours list. His omission from the list was a news story in itself as reported here by Liz Donnelly on Radio 4's PM (broadcast on Tuesday 31 December 1985). In the event he received an honorary knighthood the following June on the recommendation of the Foreign Secretary Sir Geoffrey Howe.
