Radio 1 Start Up 1981

At a Radio Academy event earlier this year, former Radio 1 controller was asked about the 5-minute jingle sequence that opened up the station in the 1980s and early 1990s, but he claimed no knowledge of it. For some it was the highlight of the day, especially when the station took delivery of a new jingle package. This recording actually dates from 1 February 1981 when the only day of the week that Radio 1 didn't follow on from Radio 2's Early Show was a Sunday. This sequence, heard on medium wave only of course, is a little different in that it includes nor only JAM Creative Productions jingles but some earlier examples from PAMS and Audio Producers. Tony Blackburn can't just help singing along.
