Classic Rock Rocks Children's Movies - Two Minute Tuesday - 20160329

As a father with young children I’ve seen my fair share of kids movies the last several years. My favorite part is watching the previews or the trailers. Naturally, the previews before most kids movies are other G rated movies coming soon to a theatre near you. I find it interesting that a lot of these children movies are using Classic Rock songs in their previews. The movie Minions uses David Bowie’s 1982 song Under Pressure, Angry Birds uses Foreigner’s 1978 hit Hot Blooded, Inside Out uses More Than A Feeling, released by the Classic Rock legendary band Boston in 1976, and 2015’s animated hit Peanuts Movie, went all the way back to 1971, uses Teenage Wasteland by the Who. I’m going take a educated guess here, but I would say that 100% of the kids watching this movie and 75% of those kids parents weren’t even born in 1971. This says a lot about the staying power of classic rock music, which could be why in many city’s the classic rock radio station ranks near the top for number of listeners. In an article late last year, Fred Jacobs, the man who developed the Classic Rock Radio Format nearly thirty years ago said “It’s been fun and gratifying for me to watch this format morph, fragment, and mature over time. Today, it attracts younger listeners who now enjoy the music in a different way than their parents and grandparents did in real time back in the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s… I learned a great deal about the power of nostalgia. The music you grew up with stays with you for your entire life”. In Kansas City you can hear the greatest Classic Rock Songs on 101 KCFX The Fox.
