Hunt calls for border staff to work on
The Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, has criticised the planned strike action by the Public and Commercial Services union, due to take place tomorrow.
Mr Hunt told Today presenter James Naughtie that "for an immigration officer - and I'm sure the vast majority of immigration officers feel this way - Thursday is one of the biggest days in their professional career.
"It is the day when the eyes of the world will be upon them and the welcome we
are giving to the rest of the world.
"The vast majority of them will want to do a really good job and show what
they are capable of."
Government lawyers will go to the High Court today to seek an injunction aimed at preventing Home Office workers, including border staff, from going on strike on the eve of the Olympics.
Members of the PCS Union are due to walk out tomorrow, in a dispute about job losses and other issues.
