Ethnic violence in Burma

Outbreaks of sectarian violence have cast a dark shadow over #Burma's much-praised reforms. Last year clashes in western #Rakhine state displaced more than a hundred thousand people.... most of them from the persecuted #Rohingya Muslim minority. Now the violence has spread to the country's heartland, south of the old royal capital of #Mandalay. More than forty people died last month in the town of #Meiktila, as crowds enraged by news that a #Buddhist monk had been killed, rampaged through the Muslim quarter. Our South East Asia Correspondent Jonathan Head has just been there, and he reports now on what lies behind this wave of hostility towards #Muslims.
