Hear Hear Episode 8: Defence

Jun 14, 2013, 08:30 AM

The first duty of government is to protect it's people. This week's Hear Hear show asks whether we're getting that duty right. 30 years ago, we had a standing army of around 200,000 and spent just under 6% of GDP on our defence budget. Now we spend little more than 2% of GDP and have less than 100,000 regular soldiers, falling to 82,000 and 30,000 reservists by 2020. Government argue the global situation changes but are we equipped?
