Early monsoon rains believed to be the worst in 80 years have affected up to a million people in the state of Uttarakhand, northern India. Over 800 people have died and with thousands still missing the Indian government suggest the death toll could rise above 5,000. Christian Aid partner CASA is already on the ground providing immediate relief.
