David Miranda, the partner of a Guardian journalist, says he suffered a kind of 'psychological violence' while being detained for nine hours by authorities at Heathrow Airport.

He was held under schedule seven of the Terrorism Act 2000.

The legislation allows the police to hold someone at an airport, port or international railway station for up to nine hours.

Unlike some other police powers to stop and search, there is no requirement for an officer to have a 'reasonable suspicion' that someone is involved with terrorism before they are questioned.

Scotland Yard says it was entirely legal, but some critics say it shouldn't be. Breakfast’s Bill Turnbull and Susanna Reid spoke to the actor, Adeel Akhtar who is campaigning to change the law.
