The man who gave the world Dolby Sound has been silenced. Ray Dolby moved from his native United States to the UK, and it was here that he developed the technology to clean up sound. He eventually moved his business to San Francisco, where he died yesterday.
The musician Thomas Dolby is no relation; but his admiration was so great that he eventually changed his name to Dolby. He spoke to BBC Radio 4's Shaun Ley:
