We speak with Richard Robinson ahead of tomorrow's concert in Leamington to raise funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind
Guide Dogs holds its first ever Christmas concert in Leamington Spa is tomorrow night the 4th December. Volunteer fundraisers from Leamington Spa and Warwick are to hold their first ever Christmas concert next month in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind. Members of the Leamington Spa & Warwick Guide Dog Fundraising Group are promoting its first ever Christmas concert on 4 December at St Mark's Church on Rugby Road. The concert will feature Leamington Spa's Choir of The Kingsley School, the Shirley Brass Band and actors from Tread the Boards. The Shirley Band is conducted by Dave Bishop-Rowe, and the band competes in the first section in the brass band world's equivalent of football’s Championship Division. The band regularly performs across the region and has several members living in and around Leamington Spa. Richard Robinson, a volunteer fundraiser from Whitnash with Guide Dogs who boards Guide Dogs and also plays baritone-horn with Shirley Band, said: "The concert - Guide Dog's first ever - will feature a range of popular Christmas arrangements and classical music, A Christmas Carol and some Dogs. It promises to be a real Christmas cracker! "The lifetime cost of a Guide Dog is around £50,000. With no Government funding for the charity, Guide Dogs relies on the generosity of the public which helps the charity to provide mobility and freedom to blind and partially sighted people." Julian Smith, Head of Music at The Kingsley School, and conductor of the choir, added: "We are delighted to be performing with The Shirley Band and helping Guide dogs for the Blind. A smaller group, Cantus Amoris, is drawn from the more experienced members of the choir and you will be hearing both the main choir and the smaller ensemble as part of the evening’s performance." The concert at St Mark's Church starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are available on the door and are priced £4.50 for adults, £3.50 for over 60s and students and £3.00 for children. Refreshments and Guide Dog Christmas gifts will be available.
