Tis the season to be jolly, tra la la la la la … so how about something to lighten the mood as we rush headlong into the Christmas holidays?

Friday nights at the Jazz club in Barga Vecchia has been a regular event right through the autumn and into the winter but next week the club will be open not just on Friday but also for a special Christmas event on Saturday 21st December.

It’s time for The Aristodemo’s Christmas concert.

Andrea Gonnella – voice | Alessandro Rizzardi – clarinetto, mandolino saxophone | Keane – percussion | Fabio Guazzelli – guitar | Ugo Menconi – accordion | Leo Gnesi – double bass …… PLUS a special guest

The group have been in rehearsals all this month and as you can hear from the short audio boo below they are once again casting their creative net and looking in a slightly different direction from their original sound of Italian swing from the 30s, 40s and 50s and seeing if they can add some more interesting sounds and compositions from other places and situations.

The short recording from one of their rehearsals features “Libertango” a composition by tango composer Ástor Piazzolla, recorded in 1974. The title is a portmanteau merging “Libertad” (Spanish for liberty) and “Tango”, symbolizing Piazzolla’s break from Classical Tango to Tango Nuevo.

Listen carefully and the sound of a new instrument in the lineup might give a small hint or suggestion as to who is the special guest for the Christmas concert.
