Playwright Jackie Sibblies Drury at London’s Bush Theatre

Jackie Sibblies Drury’s play: drumroll please!: We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia, Formerly Southwest Africa from the German Sudwest Afrika Between the Years 1884 – 1915 is on at the Bush Theatre until April 12, 2014. The first documented genocide of the 20th Century was perpetrated by the Germans in their African colony: Sudwest Afrika. In this refreshingly honest and intelligent exploration, Jackie Sibblies Drury puts 6 modern day actors in the position of trying to put together a play based on this little known event. It forces them to confront, sometimes humourously and sometimes quite darkly, the difficulty of talking about history, atrocity, race and stereotype.
