Northumberland 2014: Northern extremities of the Roman Empire at Hadrian's Wall

One of our main aims in heading north was to visit Hadrian's Wall, the fortification which once marked the northern extent of the Roman Empire in Great Britain. We visited on a roasting hot Monday morning, and weren't able to explore too far, owing to having an overheating guide dog with us. We were however, able to appreciate some of the wall's design elements and its wonderful setting in the Northumberland countryside.
