How China's growing economic influence in Nepal affects the plight of stateless Tibetans there

Rani Singh reporting from a remote camp in a village seven miles from the Tibetan border, 7000 ft. high in the Langtang mountains. For many years, Nepal has been a destination for Tibetan refugees in search of sanctuary from persecution in China. But as China wields more and more economic influence over its impoverished neighbour, it is becoming more and more difficult for Tibetans to escape and live there. The Nepalese government is under mounting pressure to clamp down on Tibetan arrivals and send them back home. This report gained attention as it was the first time a Nepali government spokesman explained how China is exerting its influence over the country, and contains a clip from former President Jimmy Carter speaking for the first time in public about his view of Tibetan refugees.
