Leeds Woman: Victim of Female Genital Mutilation

Mar 05, 2015, 10:20 PM

A shock figure for Leeds today. It's estimated that up to 2,600 women and girls in the city have undergone, or are at risk of, female genital mutilation. It's a shocking crime which is often attributed to cultures and faiths abroad - but this is happening right here in our city. BBC Radio Leeds reporter Tracy Gee has spoken to one woman who lives here in Leeds - she's originally from Guinea in West Africa - and she was brutalised as a child. Her story is upsetting; but she wants to tell it because she's worried about young people suffering here in West Yorkshire and feeling like they can't speak out. #Leeds #FGM
