Urbanization, Climate Change and Coastal Communities

With an increasing population of over 20 million in Lagos, which is the seventh fasting growing cities in the world, rapid urbanization in the state is resulting in gradual eviction and exintinction of coastal communities.

There are about 100 coastal communities in Lagos state with thirty-six situated in Amuwo Odofin local government area alone.

The global impact of climate change among which is sea level rise coupled with urban development in Lagos which experts believe is not driven by knowledge and sustainability.

This is now affecting more coastal communities that are daily losing there source of livelihood.

Tina Armstrong in this report takes a look at how environmental degradation and urban development is affecting coastal communities in Lagos.
