Life as a Visual Storyteller—Episode 27—27th July, 2015: Allowing Others to Lift You to the Stars

You've heard about eating an elephant? One bite at a time.

I wonder what elephant meat tastes like? You don't see it behind the butcher's counter at Tesco. Well—not where I live, anyway.

But that's not the point of this post. It's not even about elephants. Or reducing large projects to bite-sized chunks.

No.

It's about some pretty great people I know. They don't know it yet, but they are going to help me achieve my dreams of a) winning an Oscar and b) completing a triathlon.

Some of them will be my accountability buddies. They'll keep me on track. I'll have to do all the hard work. Their job is to make sure I actually do it.

They are a vital component of my eventual success. Not the only one, by any means. Accomplishing my goals will require the help of other groups of people too. Instructors, for instance. Mentors, too. Possibly wingmen and wingwomen. Also an audio engineer.

In other words, I can't do this on my own.

As creatives, I think we are predisposed to being loners. It comes with the territory. I thrive when I can express my vision in my voice. I can shutdown quickly in the company of louder collaborators. That may never change. But when it comes to reaching out to others to help me achieve my biggest dreams, well—I'll just have to recalibrate. Otherwise, these things simply won't get done. #cartoon
