Unable to find his friend's grave he sent poppies back to Elsie...

On a break from fighting at the Somme, a young British soldier went to find his friend's grave at Thiepval. Unable to fulfil his quest, he picked a handful of poppies to send to the soldier's grieving sweetheart. Elsie never married. Upon her death was found a packet marked "to be destroyed unopened" with the remains of the poppies close by...
