A02 Story 1 Waffle House employee killed over cigarette, police say A Waffle House employee is dead after asking a customer to put out a cigarette, Biloxi police said. The employee, who has not been identified, was shot about 1 a.m. Friday, Sgt. Donnie Dobbs told The Clarion-Ledger. An argument broke out between the customer and Johnny Mount, 45, who police said was smoking inside the restaurant. Police told WLOX-TV that Mount went out to his vehicle, got a gun, then went back inside Waffle House and shot the 52-year-old female employee.She was taken to Merit Health Biloxi, where she died.Mount is charged with first-degree murder. He is being held at the Harrison County Jail with a $2 million bail.

A03 Story 2 UMMC sees surge in ER visits because of 'spice' The University of Mississippi Medical Center says there's been a worrying surge in the number of emergency room visits from people who had used the synthetic drug called "spice." Dr. Alan Jones, chairman of emergency medicine, said the hospital's emergency room dealt with seven patients over four days this week -- and three of those patients had to be admitted to intensive care. He said the city is dealing with a particularly potent recipe. He noted that hundreds of spice-related cases were reported statewide in April, including more than three dozen at UMMC.

A04 Story 3 Jackson mother in desperate search of her teen daughter A Jackson mother pleading for your help. The mother tells us her teenage daughter has been missing for more than a week now. Jessica Bowman spoke with the family as they passed out fliers in hopes someone recognized her picture. Jessica Wonsley walked up to a car and said, "If you see this young lady would you please call the police?"

The family of 13-year-old Kaurea Smith said the Powell Middle School student has been missing for seven days.
