The British Army admits its got a problem with recruiting black and Asian soldiers. Of the 80 thousand strong army just over 3 thousand come from Britain's ethnic minorities. When it comes to officers there are even fewer- just over 300. But Sandhurst has award its highest accolade to a black cadet who couldn’t even read and write till he was twelve and left school without qualifications. The BBC's Defence Correspondent Jonathan Beale has been to meet Kidane Cousland who made his way through the ranks to become one of the first black officer cadets to be given the award.
