The Iconic Easter Island Statues

Jun 08, 2016, 07:19 AM

This week, our ‘Landmark lowdown’ on the Great Destinations Radio Show features the UNESCO recognized statues of Easter Island. There are 887 heads on the remote pacific island, which is 25km long and 12km wide. The figures stand and average of 4 metres and weigh around 14 tons. They were sculpted out of volcanic stone between the 10th and 16th centuries. James Grant-Peterkin is the British Consul and he’s lived in the Chilean territory since 1996. His company Easter Island Spirit operates 9 different tours, but James says everyone starts with the sculptures. #EasterIsland,#Landmarks,#Unesco,#Chile,#Travel,#Vacation,#Islands,@GDradioshow Pic.
