The Weeks Update: Countdown to voting day featuring Jeremy Smith & Professor John Weeks
As the clock ticks towards the referendum vote on the UK's membership of the EU, supporters on both sides of the argument are battling to win the support of undecided voters. After the killing of the Labour MP Jo Cox the campaign tone is restrained although immigration rather than the economy is still the hot button issue for many voters. Anti EU groups have written off warnings of a recession if Britain leaves the EU, as scaremongering, and they claim that Britain needs to leave Europe if it's to stand any chance of bringing immigration under control. So who's right? Does Britain need to stay in the EU to punch above its weight or is it time to break free? Professor Jeremy Smith, co-director of Policy Research in Macroeconomics, joined Juliette Foster in the studio, along with Professor John Weeks, Share Radio's regular economics commentator.
