Fields of Athenry exhibit at Brighton Digital Festival 2016

What do Athenry, tech giant Apple and Irish football fans have in common? We speak to Matt Parker whose audiovisual installation "Fields of Athenry" is on display at the Brighton Digital Festival to find out.

Using footage of football fans chanting the popular Irish song “The Fields of Athenry” mixed with a series of sonic investigations undertaken at the site of Apple’s new data centre in Athenry, his piece investigates how the medium of YouTube is a way of connecting what Athenry is, to what it might become, as the small rural town prepares to allow one of the largest data centre complexes in the world to be built nearby.
