West Midlands officially announced as bid for Commonwealth Games 2026

Heart's been told the West Midlands is being put in the race to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The bid - by Birmingham City Council, the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP and the West Midlands Combined Authority - could see more than £390million generated.

Liverpool has said it will definitely bid, while Auckland in New Zealand and Edmonton in Canada have been mentioned as potential rivals.

71 teams will take part in the Commonwealth Games in sports such as athletics, bowls, netball, rugby sevens, gymnastics, swimming and boxing.
