Smugglers rule the Balkan Route

Despite claims to the contrary, the Balkan Route is not entirely closed to refugees. However now it's the people smugglers who benefit and refugees take enormous risks in order to try to move north.

Serbian authorities tell the BBC over a thousand #refugees try and cross into the country every week. Why? Because many are being left in dire conditions in Greece. From Serbia and Greece, Europe correspondent Damian Grammaticas reports for BBC World Service. Produced by Piers Scholfield.
