Dynasty, Miami Vice, Hart to Hart, Hill Street Blues, LA Law and Star Trek: The Next Generation. These are some of the most popular programmes in the history of television. And what they have in common, other than sky high viewing figures, is a resident of the little village of Fornalutx, a short distance from the Port of Sóller. Orphaned and penniless at eighteen, Gabrielle Beaumont later blazed a trail as one of Hollywood’s first female directors, living the high life with a house on Mulholland Drive, a Ferrari in the driveway and a boat at Marina del Rey. She has known triumph and tragedy and at seventy-four is still a very long way off retirement. She spoke to Shirley Roberts on the terrace of her hillside home. The Port of Sóller Radio Programme is a Boat Radio / Sollerweb production. You can find more of Shirley’s work, including her many newspaper and magazine articles, at www.sollerweb.com.
