Brenda Drumm spoke to Father Liam Lawton about 'Requiem for a Child'. Father Liam said, "As part of the 1916 Celebrations I was privileged to be invited by Mary Amond O Brien to write some music for this special commemoration of this centenary year. What emerged is 'Requiem for a Child' in which I have taken various elements of the Requiem in the Latin, Irish and English languages to reflect the immensity of what happened to our children and what sadly is still happening throughout the world today. Written for Choir , String Quartet, Piano and Uilieann Pipes, it has been beautifully arranged by Mark Cahill and all under the amazing direction of Mary Amond O Brien. This will be a unique one night only performance in this significant year in the beautiful setting of the Cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow."

This interview was broadcast on Sunday 16 October. For more on the performance of Requiem for a Child, see www.kandle.ie.
