Malta's EU summit

Feb 07, 2017, 04:48 PM

Inviting the EU leaders to their regular summits these days calls for the same careful thought as inviting a divorced couple to a wedding. Take tomorrow’s gathering on the Mediterranean island of Malta for example…it’s been decided that Theresa May WILL be at the morning session but won’t attend in the afternoon when the subject of the EU’s future – and Brexit – is discussed. That still leaves scope to talk about the EU’s migration crisis and what sort of attitude Europe should strike to Donald Trump’s America… Our Europe Correspondent Kevin Connolly has been watching the Maltese prepare to host the year's first EU summit.

Broadcast on Thursday 2nd March on BBC Radio 4's PM programme. Produced by Charlotte Hayward.
