The Maltese
Leaders of the EU are gathered in Malta today discussing some of the organisation's biggest problems in its smallest member state – the population of Malta is smaller than Shropshire’s. Alongside hardy perennials like the migration crisis they’ll be trying to decide how to deal with the political challenges being posed apparently every day by the Trump administration. The Prime Minister Theresa May will be at the morning session but will tactfully miss the afternoon talks where Brexit might come up. But there are British expatriates on Malta who hope that our old ally in the Mediterranean will be on our side diplomatically when push comes to shove. Our Europe Correspondent Kevin Connolly went to meet some of them.
Broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday Feb 4th 2017. Produced by Charlotte Hayward.
