UNHCR says number of South Sudan Refugees reaches 1.5 million

The United Nations Refugees agency, UNHCR says ongoing violence and pace of displacement in South Sudan has forced more than 1.5 million people to leave the country in search of safety since December 2013. The agency says an additional 2.1 million people are displaced inside South Sudan. UNHCR says South Sudan has Africa’s largest refugee crisis as thousands continue to flee the country into neighboring countries.. It says majority of the refugees are hosted by #Uganda, where nearly 700 thousand people are settled followed by #Ethiopia, #Sudan, #Kenya, Democratic republic of #Congo and the Central African Republic. The agency calls on the warring parties to find urgent peaceful resolution of the conflict #UNHCR says it is seeking 82 million dollars to cover its operations inside #SouthSudan and the neighboring host countries.
