Ian Stafford, Founder of the London Sporting Club
Ian is the Founder and Chairman of the London Sporting Club at Mortons, the first private members club with a permanent Mayfair home set up for an exclusive network of sport and the business of sport.
Ian is one of the UK's most experienced national newspaper and magazine journalists, winning nine national writing awards and covering every major global sports event, from the Olympics to football and rugby world cups over the past 30 years. Interviewing many of the world's biggest sports names.
He appears regularly on national and international TV and radio, from presenting to reporting to being a guest pundit on channels such as CNN, BBC, Sky, ITV, Channels 4 and 5, to writing and narrating radio sports documentaries on BBC Radio 4.
A prolific author of 16 books, two of which have been global best sellers. He launched online sports magazine Sportsvibe.co.uk in 2010 and is also a consultant for various media and PR organisations including KICCA and the Outside Organisation.
We sat down at the club in Mayfair to talk through his extensive and varied career. One that involved shaving his head and donning fake tattoos to blend in with football hooligans in a 1989 to Poland. And his report from it led to him being named Sports Reporter of the Year.
He throws himself into everything he does, that much is obvious from the way he speaks. How many other people have got into the ring with Roy Jones Junior and been 12th man with the Springboks in South Africa, and all in the name of research of a book.
He's seen the effects digital has had on journalism through his time with the Mail on Sunday and his own independent work in TV, radio and written press.
His most recent project is the London Sporting Club at Mortons in Mayfair, London. Bringing together sports personalities and senior sports business professionals, helping them do business and much more. Part of what he's doing is with his monthly lunches where he brings together 80 people and a headline star who he interviews during the day.
