(August 14, 2017) - A burglar found himself at gunpoint courtesy of the citizen he was trying to victimize, then resisted arrest when caught by Cape Coral police.

On August 13, 2017 at approximately 10:00pm, Cape Coral Police patrol officers responded to a burglary call at the 1200 block of NE 18th Place. They had been advised that a citizen had caught a man attempting to break into his home, and the citizen had the man detained at gunpoint in the driveway. Upon arrival officers observed Tuan Nguyen (DOB: 5-21-99) detained by the citizen, and  went to detain him. Nguyen resisted officers' attempts to handcuff him and had to be "drive-stunned" with a Taser before he was able to be handcuffed.

The citizen who had detained Nguyen said that Nguyen had encountered his mother-in-law in the front yard and chased her toward the house. Nguyen punched out a window and attempted to gain entry to the home after being unable to catch her. Another victim a block away stated that Nguyen had entered his garage and attempted to hotwire his vehicle. Damage consistent with this was located in the vehicle. Further investigation confirmed Nguyen's involvement in both these cases, as well as the fact that he was under the influence of LSD at the time.

Nguyen was arrested for two counts of occupied burglary of a dwelling, burglary of a vehicle, two counts of criminal mischief, assault with intent to commit a felony, and resisting without violence. Nguyen was transported to the Lee County Jail.
