- Counting Down to the Great American Solar Eclipse The United States is now in final countdown mode for the August 21st total eclipse of the Sun which will see the Moon block out the solar disk along a 113 kilometre wide path of totality stretching from the North West Pacific coast of Oregon to the Atlantic coast of South Carolina. The spectacle actually begins in the North Pacific Ocean -- south of the Aleutian Islands before reaching the continental United States at Lincoln Beach Oregon at 9:06 in the morning Pacific daylight time with totality occurring at 10:19.
